We've added some custom fields that we feel are very important. They are displayed way down at the bottom of the Details page, so they're not easily visible. I want the ability to customize the layout of the Details page so we can move these custom fields up higher in the listing. This capability would also allow slimming down this view by removing fields that don't need to be displayed here, but that we don't want to remove from the entire system. At the very least, we'd like to be able to move these down to the bottom.

This is a no brainer. Users are used to adding items in a certain order that may differ from one company to an other. Allowing the story field order to be customizable will be a HUGE improvement in order to increase tool usage.
The Detail View was redesigned in the Spring 2011 release to improve readability and bring more information into one view by using a two column layout and grouping related attributes. Custom fields have also been brought up closer to the top of the layout, such that they'll be in view without having to scroll.
We considered other features such as custom layout and omitting empty fields but found that the new layout was already so good that these other features did not add enough value to make up for the complexity that they would introduce.
