It seems that you have "mention" people and items each time you reply to a conversation. I think it would be much more useful if these were retained so that each participant would be notified for each update. I don't think it is reasonable to expect each participant to re-mention each item or user for each reply.

  • As long as users have the ability to remove themselves from a thread, I think this is an awesome idea! Most people on our campus refuse to use this feature due to its limited functionality.

  • I agree. It can be unproductive to have to keep re-entering the mentions.

  • I agree, this has been a constant pain point for my team. When having a discussion about a defect or BL item, we have to add the defect or BL number to mentions every time we reply to a conversation about that item. Otherwise the association is totally lost as the conversation goes on. This also means the notification emails people get related to the conversation do not have any defect or BL item noted, so you have no clue what the conversation was related. So having all of the mentions retained (whether it be members, defects, BLs) throughout the conversation would be a huge improvement.

  • Can't the user just elect to follow the conversation? Isn't that function available now? If so, what about an "auto-follow" feature, where if mentioned, a user would automatically follow a conversation.

That being the case, the user should be notified that he/she has been added as a follower (via email, preferably - albeit a notification within V1 would also be helpful) - AND he/she should have the ability to un-follow.

  • Actually this has been resolved in the Spring 2013 release and so this probably should be labelled as completed.

  • With the Spring 2013 fix, do email notifications include reference to the item, even if it is not 'mentioned' again by the person making the new comment?

  • Just checked and it doesn't. It would be great if this could happen: email notification includes link to the object being mentioned by a continuing conversation, even if it was explicitly 're-mentioned' by the commenter.

  • It would also be great if it would contain the previous threads of the conversation so you don't have to keep looking it up to understand what the conversation is about. Even if it has the link to the story/defect in the conversation it is helpful to see the entire thread instead of just chunks.

  • Rules around notification behavior were simplified in the Spring 2013 release. Every conversation shows a list of people who are currently following a conversation; it's the list shown at the top of the conversation thread "with Ed, Amy, ...". Those people will receive a notification whenever a reply is made.

The rules around how people appear/disappear from that list:
    * anyone mentioned is added to the list.
    * replying to the conversation will add you to the list.

You also have the ability to control your inclusion in the list.
    * you can add yourself to the list without being mentioned or replying by clicking "+ me".
    * you can remove yourself from the list by clicking "- me".

Again, whomever is on the list at the time a reply is composed will receive a notification of that reply.
