Indicate when an item contains an attachment by placing an indicator on the tab. For example, the tab currently says "Attachments" and if you had attached 3 files to this item it would read "Attachments (3)".
The same could be done for Relationships, Links and Discussions.

same with links or discussions!
I like the idea of having a "counter" for discussions.
I'd find that usefull. We make fairly sparse use of links & discussions on stories. Any visual indication on the tab that there was anything present at all would be a big help. Without it, why enter a (rare) discussion, when no one is likely to look for it? Counts would help good, because one could then recognise tabs with more than our usual one link.
The Detail View was redesigned in the Spring 2011 to include a new relationship summary bar shows the existing relationships and their counts at the top of an item's Detail View.
