We'd like to be able to change the required fields for some of the assets in V1. What we have to do now is go inspect backlog items and defects and enter a Status, Priority, Found By, and other data items when they are blank. We'd like to force the users to enter this data on the way in so that we're not chasing around for it later.

  • Please consider this option for custom fields, along with another related suggestion to allow custom field to be ordered within the standard fields and not at the bottom of the edit page.

  • In particular, when we use VersionOne for defect reports, some fields are critical. We have to enforce this by training and monitoring, which is a step down from the defect tracking system we migrated from.

  • I agree w/ all the comments including custom fields. For what it is worth, you can create a "bad data" query via the API to highlight items that don't meet your business rules, but that is after the fact and someone needs to re-edit the data. Stopping the user at point of entry is preferred.

  • This is now available in the Summer 2009 Release. The functionality does include the ability to make custom fields required. Customizing the layout of the Details page (including the Add/Edit pages) is entered as an independent idea called "Control order of custom fields in edit dialogs", so feel free to throw your votes that way if that is appealing.
