For ease of use it would be nice if the Owner field would default to the current user.

This would be quite a problem for us... the "facilitator" typing in stories while planning is not the owner 50% of the time. At least make this a preference!
Even if you are not the owner, setting this as default rather than empty would be an improvement! Things without owners tend to be "forgotten"
The member creating the story may not always be the intended "owner". But there is a way to accomplish this now. First - Set a filter by Owner and then as new backlog items are created, the fields will pre-populate with the value of the currently applied filters. Tip: Save a grid view customization to setup the filter values to apply as pre-populated values as you create a new data item.
