In Scrum, the idea is 'transparency'. Commonly, teams have their product backlog, sprint backlog, and sprint burndown chart all displayed on a wall somewhere for all to see as they walk by. They call this the 'information radiator'. Ideally, this would include other things like Defects and Issues lists, etc., but it is up to the team.

Some progressive teams have a flat screen TV that they turn into a Monitor, and they use that as a continually updated Information Radiator. Naturally, this means that it rotates between the various reports, or it lays them all out on the one page.

I would like to see a simple feature to facilitate this digital Information Radiator. Specifically:

* Ability to have an 'information radiator' page within VersionOne that is a configured set of reports.

* This 'radiator' displays the reports with a minimum of extra stuff on the screen, so the screen has a maximum of usable real-estate for useful data, critical for big screens with low resolution.

* If configured with multiple reports cycled, I should be able to configure how long that report is displayed before moving on to the next. Thus, it is a report Slideshow, since there is no way of scrolling the Information Radiator.

* If one of the reports is, for example, the Product Backlog, I should be able to configure the columns and sorting for the report, independent of any other views of the product backlog in the UI.

* It [might] be nice if the URL of this Information Radiator could be emailed to people in the company, and they could view the data without having to have a VersionOne login

* In order to include reports from the Build System such as 'who broke the build' reports, have the ability to define Pages within the Radiator that pull in external resources, things outside of VersionOne.

  • "I would like to see a simple feature..." - does this really sound that simple? It would probably be harder to get the user base to agree on the requirements than implement it, but it's not that straight-forward.

V1 has demo'd at conferences on a touch flat screen monitor... it's quite impressive. This would probably be your better solution.

  • I like the idea to allow external stakeholder to get an overview of how things are going without having to use a VersionOne license.
Personally I would like to have an Information Radiator on my departments page on our Intranet rotating between relevant information.

A Danish company called Targit (www.TargIT.com) provides such functionality -emails, html pages or rotating slideshows showing charts, tables and dashboards based on data from a data warehouse.
This requires their Corporate Comminication Module and that you have extracted information from the VersionOne database and placed this in a data warehouse (Microsoft Analysis Services) - not something one would do over night.

  • I could be as simple as having an "auto-refresh" button on the dashboard pages.
