Have a configuration to enable the ability to automatically have a Story inherit the Source criteria when the Story is created. Have it prefill to inherit the value from the Portfolio Item.
For example, when you create a Story "Add Child Story" from the Portfolio item it automatically inherits the items like Title, Planning Level, Team, etc. There should be the configuration capabilities to inherit other fields for the Story. Examples, Owner, Source, Priority etc.

Can you please explain the use case for this? Why do you think other fields are required to be inherited? What is the problem you are facing without having the option? In most cases, we see users are updating the title & description while adding the story from the portfolio item and some customers are using the template option accomplish similar use cases. it would be nice for us to understand bit more on this. Thanks
