In the "My Projects" area, add a set of shortcuts to frequently used Projects. We have a complex hierarchy of projects across a broad portfolio. The hierarchies are necessary for rollup & portfolio reporting, but it makes switching between frequently used projects a pain for power users that need access to all projects.

The Project Navigator, introduced in Spring 2011, offers features that let you quickly switch between projects in Enterprise and Ultimate editions. A recent projects list gives you direct links to switch to the projects that you had recently set. This will also use any filters that had been set with those projects.
You can also quickly switch to any project by name in the project navigator. Both this and the recent projects list are available without needing to load the project tree, so it's lightweight and fast.
