Often when I go to add an attachment to something, I have to click back on the Details tab to find the item number. It would be much more convenient to always have that number displayed so when a user is in another tab they can tell someone the item number without having to unnecessarily navigate back to Details.

The Detail View has been redesigned in the Spring 2011 release to make the ID move obvious. When an item is viewed in a tab or window, the ID is shown in the page title. When viewed in a lightbox, the ID is visible in the header. Furthermore, many of the Detail View tabs have been "absorbed" into the main details tab so that you have more visible information.
