Rather than spend time saving an image to a file and then uploading it to attachments, I would like to be able to paste small images in the story description. This will save me a ton of time and allow me to communicate more effectively.

Not just the text of the story, but any where a paragraph can be entered. Description of a story, a task, a test, an epic, comments, etc.
This is super important for the description of a bug or user backlog item. Often a pic, often a screenclipping is by far the best way to convey information. Having to save a screenclipping then attach it is way too inefficient. We really need this.
This is something essential for ultimate user experience. We have also been experimenting with the screen capture sample utility in the SDK - but not perfect.
There are several ideas on this site concerning issues with the description field. It seems that they could all potentially be solved by replacing the current RTF editor with something more robust.
Important idea, and also something that Rally already does-- it would be great to see it in VersionOne.
The description field appears to be html but the controls are limited. Being able to include images and format the text would be a big improvement. (When we used jira if you attached a file you saw a thumbnail when you viewed the story.)
When you talk to V1 Support, they are hinting that pasting ability may be browser type and setting related. I use Firefox11 and IE9 and have been able to successfully paste an image (*.png) with just copy paste into these RTF Text boxes. But some of my colleagues can not. I am searching to find if there is some sort of Setting in their browser that prevents this?
I can't paste a jpeg that was embedded in an email but other images seem to work. Not sure why a jpeg is different.
This is the most critical need for us. We can successfully paste from the clipboard into a description field using Firefox. But, the images are not saved and only placeholders are shown when viewed from other browsers or workstations. - - The use of images is immensely helpful to illustrate points, especially when writing defects. Please consider adding support for this soon!
As a mac user - I would love to drag and drop wireframes !
@Doug, thank you for pointing out that the images can't be seen from a different browser. V1 support had advised to only use FireFox to copy/paste text and images but did not mention unable to view from the others.
Conversations, attachments, and links are inaccessible.... too many clicks, not smooth enough. Improving this might make this request go away.
This would really enhance the user experience. Essentially, any pasted images could become in-line attachments on the asset. The save process would identify any new images, attach them, get their asset reference, then update the html with that reference. The css could easily be modified to take the downloaded asset and display in-line.
One thing I would do differently, though, is to display a thumbnail of the image. Either hovering over it with the mouse or simply clicking it would then allow it to expand to full-size (or pop-out?).
Something similar to the screenshot feature of YouTrack would be very useful!
It would make the documentation work of items much easier and more efficient.
Yes please, would definitely be of use to us.
This would be super helpful to us as well. I keep having to create files to hold the screen shots of failed tests only to add them to the Defect or Story.
I managed to add a screenshot this way in Chrome using YouTrack:
1. Take a screenshot using the screenshot tool in YouTrack (creates a png image).
2. Preview the screenshot in YouTrack by hovering over it.
3. Place the pointer inside the preview and right-click and select "Copy Image".
4. Paste it into the description of an item in VersionOne.
5. When I opened the item from Firefox and IE on anoter PC, the image is still there.
fogbugz can also display jpg and pdf directly in the history without the need to click on it
As of the Winter 2014 release you can embed images within description fields and custom rich-text fields. Embedded images are shown in their actual size when viewing an asset in the detail view and you have control of sizing the images while editing.
