I think it would be invaluable to send email notifications to the teams when a new conversation is initiated or a reply is made to an existing conversation.

  • Agreed!! I still don't understand why I need to leave the conversation window open as I work. Use the email/notification functionality in the system to make it simpler to use!!

  • There was an idea posted called "Subscriptions to discussions" which asked for this functionality before conversations were added. That item got over 100 votes, and was marked as "completed", even though conversations are not connected to email!

    That item should be re-opened until the email connection is implemented.

    V1, please listen to your customers!

  • Just to clarify what I think is needed.

    Minimum requirements:

    When a new conversation is created, an email should be sent to:
    - the owners of any items mentioned in the conversation

    When a conversation is replied to, an email should be send to:
    - the owners of any items mentioned in the conversation
    - everyone who has participated in the conversation

    Each email needs to have the text of the conversation and a link to the conversation in V1 so it can be easily replied to.

    Additional "nice to have" items:

    Ability to reply via email and have the entry automatically added to the conversation. This allows the user to participate in conversation threads without having to switch back and forth between email and VersionOne.

    Ability to subscribe to new conversations by project.

  • The email notify would be a valuable option but might tend to degrade into spam. We would at least like a visual indication on the conversation icon that would indicate to a user that there is new content that is relevent to the user. whether that be from people the user is following or more comments in conversations the user was involved in.

  • I agree that a visual indication would be valuable (even essential), but I would also like the ability to choose whether or not to subscribe to email notifications. This is consistent with the way other notifications work in VersionOne. It would be very useful for those of us who use multiple tools every day and need a way to manage all our communications from a single location.

    Both capabilities should be available.

  • Conversations is very cool but without the notification push to me, it is not quite fully baked, IMO. I agree with the lightweight notification idea but also want to opt in for email notification. You could offer options like Google Groups where I can get an email with every post right away or a daily digest. During the sprint, one is not always glued to V1 every day so even a digest mode would be helpful and offers a solution to reducing spam if that is someone's concern.

  • For years, forums have had an option to subscribe to the conversation when I start a conversation or reply to a thread. I should be able to unsubscribe, but we should assume that people want to know when others have replied to the thread.

  • Communication is overall a big issue, lot of our product owners and developers have experience of working with BaseCamp and they found the earlier discussions and now conversation are not that useful. Please make conversations collaborative with emails, so everyone associated with the conversation automatically gets an email about anything new added to the conversation and when you reply the email (with the context of current conversation topic and the conversation chain), it automatically gets added to the V1 conversation log and is distributed to everyone else involved in the conversation on email. This allows collaboration via conversations, when you are not using V1 website. (conversations should also have file attachments, and you should be able to send the attachments via conversation emails too). e.g.

    User A added a backlog Item/conversation, User B got a notification email. User B replied to the notification email with an attachment. (the content of the email reply automatically gets added to conversation, and an email is sent to User A with the details of what was added with the attachment.

    Above example allows allows collaboration between everyone involved, and also saves the relevant conversations in V1 with attachments.

    This is a main problem for us, and if we do not get the collaboration resolved soon, we'll have to move to some other tool.

  • It would be unfortunate for V1 do do a complete rewrite as they have done without adding some kind of notification capability. They would do their customers a great service if they would stop focusing on new features for a while in order to address some basic usability issues across the board.

  • I agree that a flag on the Conversations icon would be the MINIMUM enhancement I would like to see.
