Currently you have to view the item, and then can click edit. Would be nice if there was a right click/edit option.

It would be nice to enable edit of multiple stories in separate browser tabs.
The ability to directly edit cards from story, task and test boards was introduced in a winter 2012 point release. Further details can be found in the release notes:
