We had a defect that was sbumitted that needs to be done before a backlog item can be done. I went to add this defect as an upstream dependency but found that I could not select a defect for a backlog item.

Ran into this issue today. A defect may be required to be completed prior to a story being worked. This feature would be useful.
A story may fix a defect as well. This has caused quite a lot of pain for me to manage. I've resorted to converting the downstream defect to a backlog item if i need upstream work. This way i can at least see the 'upstream dependency' while doing planning.
