We used to use Fogbugz and it had a really great facility that allowed you to copy emails into a work item discussion by including the ID somewhere in the email subject.

That way you can keep a story up to date with the latest info without having to cut and paste email information in.

  • We used Round-up and it would let you decide who to email with discussions, (owners were automatically emailed) and you could reply to the email and it would update in round-up automatically, so the entire email thread was stored. I think this is what you are saying here. I'd add that I would want to be able to email discussions to particular team members and know that their replies are going to be part of the VersionOne discussion thread.

  • We too used to use Fogbugz and totally agree that this is the way to go. A person from V1 suggested that communicating exclusively through the tool was a good thing. But I don't believe that is viable without this feature.

  • Actually, now that I'm thinking about it: The email detail should be captured in discussions so that only the final resolution is saved within the story or defect description....

  • A better integration of email and now conversations is really needed. People are on their blackberrys, iphone etc, having any and all discussion locked in VersionOne without any way for that to flow to email is crippling for teams on the go.

  • There is a community-contributed integration that allows you to automatically post email text as a conversation expression to a work-item in your VersionOne system. It also supports the automatic creation of VersionOne attachments from the attachments in the email, linking them directly to the same work-item.
